December at La Sala

We want to keep you moving this winter, in gentle and mindful ways. Here are some opportunities to join in practices that help keep the cold from settling in your bones.

Yoga Sala’s offerings

Look forward to four weekly Yoga classes, a free monthly class for Service Veterans (always the second Saturday of the month), a free community Yoga class, a short Tai Chi course, a special vinyasa series, and gongs!

NOTE: should be DEC 14 (typo above)
Contact Carrie, carrieleven@gmail.com, to determine if this class is a fit for you and yours.

Veterans Yoga meets Saturday, Dec 14, from 10:00-11:15 am. This class focuses on methods for dealing with stress. Practicing mindfulness, movement, and meditation has been shown to reduce the effects of stress and build a person’s resilience. This class is open to Military Veterans, Gold Star Families, First Responders, Peace Corps Veterans, and Civil Servants.

Tai Chi

We introduced Michael Graney in October through a series of Yoga and Tai Chi classes, since he teaches both. Then, in November, he offered two more Saturday classes for folks to meet him, presenting Foundations of Yoga and a Tai Chi Workshop. Now he will present a short three-week course; participants will learn the movement sequences of the 10- form or “first form” of the Yang- style of Tai Chi.

Monday and Wednesday mornings, 8:00 – 9:00 am, cost: $50
Week 1: Dec 2 and 4
Week 2: Dec 9 and 11
Week 3: Dec 16 and 1

Folks at the November Tai Chi Workshop

Mike began his practice of yoga as an augmentation to outdoor sports in the early 80s. He gradually become a dedicated student of both Yoga and Tai Chi. He has instructed various forms of both disciplines since 2007 and has worked as a substance-abuse counselor and professional guide for most of his adult life. He has relocated to Sunshine Valley from New Zealand where he lived for some years.

December 31st ~ Yoga Vibrations

We’re hosting Yoga Vibrations, a special event to close December and 2019. On December 31, Mike Graney and Lane Kingsberry offer a unique year-ending 2-hour practice of asana, pranayama and sound-immersion.

Lane will play several gongs on December 31, producing incredible vibrations

Lane and Michael met in 2001 on the opposite sides of an addiction recovery program. Since then they have forged a friendship that has inspired a wonderful journey into the healing and joy of vibratory awareness that sound and yoga generate in our lives.

Mike and Lane have earned E-RYT 200 status. Their combination of philosophy, asana, pranayama and sound will leave you with a feeling of freshness so you may head into 2020 with renewed energy and joy.

Lane hails from Lubbock Texas and we hope he will keep coming to New Mexico regularly. Cost is $45 per individual of $80 for a pair. Reserve your spot early by contacting Mike, daemongraney@yahoo.com.

Joy

However you move through December and into 2020, let it be with joy. Here’s a poem from Mary Oliver to help.

Don’t Hesitate
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don’t hesitate.
Give in to it.
There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be.
We are not wise, and not very often kind.
And much can never be redeemed.
Still, life has some possibility left.
Perhaps this is its way of fighting back,
that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world.
It could be anything,
but very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins.
Anyway, that’s often the case.
Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid of its plenty.
Joy is not made to be a crumb.

Happy December!
